Save on Heating & Cooling Costs

Did you know that investing in a good landscape design can increase the value of your home an average of 20%  and save you anywhere from 15% to 50% in heating and cooling cost? Landscaping is a cost effective way to save energy, add curb appeal, value, interest, ambience, add outdoor living spaces extending your space to entertain. Planting deciduous shade trees on the south and southwest side of house can save you real money on household cooling costs, providing shade from the summer heat, yet allowing the sunshine through in the winter months, after the leaves have fallen. Evergreen trees and shrubs planted on the west and northwest sides of the house act as a windbreak from the cold winter winds. Other features such as fencing can also aid in breaking the cold winter winds. Planting trees also helps the total environment through a process called evapotranspiration. On the underside of all leaves/needles are tiny holes called stomata. These stomata open to create a suction for the tree to pull water up into the foliage from the roots in the ground. Water travels up through the xylem which is the main canal for water and nutrients. When the stomata open they release a cool mist. The temperature can be 10+ degrees cooler underneath a tree because of evapotranspiration. It's not just the shade it provides.
Keep in mind that your personalized landscape design should not only be unique, but also profitable and practical.  Therefore, when considering landscaping, we suggest you ask yourself a few questions about your property and keep them in mind when contacting your Landscape Designer.
